White Loaf

Simple White Bread
  • 500g Strong white bread flour
  • 7g Sachet of dried yeast
  • 1 Teaspoon of salt
  • 350 ml of Warm water
  • Oil
  • Gas 7 for 15 minutes
  • Gas 5 for 30 minutes

A nice simple loaf which tastes great and freezes too!

Place flour, yeast and salt into a bowl and slowly add the water and stir, use up to the 350 ml of water and mix until you get a good sticky dough mix, not too wet. Remove from bowl onto a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes, working the bread and stretching the dough.

Oil a bowl and place into the bottom and cover with cling film and leave in a warm room for 1.5 hours to rise. After the loaf has doubled in size remove from the bowl and knead again for 2 to 3 minutes, place on a floured baking tray or loaf tin, cover with a tea towel for 30 minutes.

At this time preheat oven
Switch to gas mark 7 place bread into oven, after 15 minutes turn oven down from 7 to gas 5 for 30 minutes. When time is up remove the bread and tap the base, if it sounds hollow its down, if not 5 more minutes.

Place finished bread on a cooling rack and allow to cool for 1 hour.
